MOTOR VEHICLE THIEVES NABBED

DIEP RIVER–On 2022-01-31 at about 11:00 Diep River Crime Prevention Unit and Sector Commanders responded to an anonymous tip-off of a possible stolen vehicle at a known residential premises for criminal activity in Rotherfield road, Plumstead.

On arrival local security service providers on scene informed the members that the suspects had abandoned the vehicle and barricaded themselves in the roof of their premises.

Additional back-up was requested by members on scene to secure cordon-off the property. After several attempts were made, the suspects refused to comply with members on scene.

The SAPS Special Task Force (STF) and SAPS negotiator was called to the scene. Further negotiations with the suspects took place to surrender themselves however the suspects still refused to comply.

In a collaborated effort the STF successfully arrested the three (3) suspects that were barricaded in the roof and handed over to Diep River SAPS members on scene. An additional four (4) suspects found in the property were also arrested on scene.

After further investigation, the members successfully recovered the motor vehicle on the property stolen on a Muizenberg case earlier this year.

No shots were fired. Charges of Possession of Stolen Motor vehicle was opened. The suspects were further detained at Diep River SAPS and will appear at Wynberg Magistrates Court soon.
