Crime wrap –  January 2017, SAPS Diep River

Western Cape:   On 2017/01/26 at 08.33, a unknown black male, enquired about employment vacancies at a Restaurant in Plumstead. As the employee opened the door of the Business premises, the suspect pointed what was believed to be a firearm at the complainant. Three more unknown black males then joined the suspect and forced the Complainant into a storeroom.  The suspects fled the scene with R 5000.00 cash and various bottles of liquor. The case is currently under Investigation. Anyone with information can contact Detective/ Constable Ivan Sonnenberg on (021) 7107356. No arrest have been made yet.


On 2017/01/27 at 17.30, unlawful entry was gained at a residence in Meadowridge, by a black male, believed to reside in Montague Village. The garage door of her premises was forced open. The complainant noticed her bicycle and meat to the value of R1500.00 were missing.  The complainant alerted security, who informed her that they seen an unknown male with a bicycle. The security thereafter managed to trace the suspect, with the bicycle, and the complaint identified the property, the suspect was in possession of as her property.  A case of Burglary Residence has been opened at Diep River Police Station. The suspect has been arrested.


On the same day at 20.45, three unknown black males entered a business premises in Southfield. The suspects entered the premises and pointed what seemed to be a firearm at the complainant, and instructed him to lie on the floor. The suspects then proceeded to rob the complainant of cigarettes, electricity, cash and airtime, to the value of R45000.00. The case is currently under Investigation. No arrests have been made yet.


On 2017/01/28, at 19.45, Diep River police members attended a complaint in Southfield. Upon arrival at the scene, the complainant informed the police members, that she had been stabbed with a knife, in her head, neck and chest, by her boyfriend. The victim was transported to hospital and the suspect a coloured male, residing in Southfield, was arrested for Attempted Murder. The case is currently under investigation.


This office can confirm for the month of January, fines for Road transgressions, amounting to R 56,500.00 were issued during four VCP’s (Vehicle check point) as well as Crime Prevention operations.  A total of 41 vehicles were stopped due to the LPRCLOUDSA  success, resulting in many arrests. This month 112 suspects were arrested at Diep River Police Station, for various charges such as Housebreaking and Theft, Theft, Driving under the influence of alcohol, Assault, Possession of drugs , Attempted Murder and Theft of Motor Vehicle, only mentioning a few.
