TEAMWORK PAYS OFF

SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE-CORPORATE COMMUNICATION: DIEP RIVER SAPS

IMMEDIATE MEDIA RELEASE  Friday 14th SEPTEMBER 2018

 TEAMWORK PAYS OFF

Western Cape: On Thursday 2018-09-13 at about 13:00 Diep River SAPS were tipped off of a white suspicious sedan vehicle with five (5) males inside driving down slowly in Trent Road, Plumstead after reports of an alleged housebreaking and theft that took place nearby in the Plumstead Area.

With the assistance of local partnerships, Diep River SAPS made an All-Point-Bulletin (APB) and later the vehicle was spotted by a neighborhood watch patroller. Diep River SAPS and Law Enforcement officers then responded and stopped the vehicle on the corners of De Waal Road and M5 Highway, Plumstead.

Three suspects jumped out of the motor vehicle and fled on foot into nearby properties whilst the driver of the white sedan and passenger drove off in an attempt to evade the police.

Whilst Law enforcement and local neighborhood watch patrollers searched for the three on foot, Diep River SAPS pursued the vehicle and brought the vehicle to a stop on Racecourse Road, Kenilworth. The two occupants in the vehicle were arrested on scene.

The other three suspects that jumped out earlier and fled on foot were later found and arrested.

A total of five (5) suspects, all male, aged from 18 years to 31 years, were arrested and charges of Housebreaking and Theft and Possession of Stolen Property were opened against the suspects.

This proves just once again, that working together as a team in the fight against crime can achieve outstanding results in squeezing crime to zero. We continue to encourage those who are not yet involved – to become involved. Fighting crime starts with you. Diep River SAPS would like to express their gratitude to those neighborhood watch patrollers, security service providers, and law enforcement agencies that continuously, day-by-day, assist SAPS in endeavors to bring those perpetrators to book. We encourage members of the public to continue to report any and all suspicious activity to SAPS on 08600 10111. END.
