“MY SAPS” MOBILE APPLICATION
DIEP RIVER–The South African Police Service has officially launched in partnership with Vodacom the “My SAPS” mobile app.
The My SAPS App allows members of the public to report anonymous crime tips through the application.
Users of the My SAPS app will have access to several features, including:
· Provide Tip-offs – The ability to submit crime tip-offs anonymously through the app.
· Find police stations and facilities – The ability to locate the nearest police station or vulnerable services facilities.
· Emergency Alert – The ability to send emergency messages in case of danger.
Using the app
You will need to register and create a profile to access the platform. Once you have created a profile, a directory of police stations and nearby social service facilities will be provided.
When using the tip-off the facility, an option will be given to report the crime anonymously.
You will be required to identify the type of incident and supply details of the event, suspect information, as well as any other information in the tip-off that can assist SAPS. The information you provide will be used accordingly to assist SAPS in creating a profile on possible suspects.
You will be provided with a reference number and the ability to supply further information pertaining to the crime or to follow up on the police’s progress
It is important to note that victims of crime will still be required to register a case at a police station for the purposes of investigation and insurance claims.
