Western Cape: On 2018-10-19 at 04:05 Diep River SAPS responded to a house robbery call at a residential premises at Evermonde road, Plumstead. The complainant was woken up by three unknown African males next to his bed, all armed with knives. The suspects demanded for firearms and tied up the complainant and his wife whilst they ransacked the house.

Various items such as televisions, household goods, cell phones, jewellery, two handguns and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The suspects then fled the premises on foot.

An All-Point-Bulletin (APB) was immediately made by the members after receiving numerous calls from neighbouring residents of unknown suspects trespassing in their properties. Diep River SAPS, its reservists, and other crime-fighting partnerships such as the neighbourhood watches, Security-Service-Providers (SSPs) and neighbouring SAPS stations assisted in cordoning off the area in an attempt to trace and arrest these suspects.

A block-and-cordon search was executed and lead to two suspects being arrested after the members were allegedly shot at.

One male suspect, aged 35 years was found hiding in a nearby property in Dragoon Road, Plumstead. A knife was recovered in the toilet room which is alleged to have been used in the commission of the crime.

The second male suspect, aged 32 years, was arrested after he was found hiding under a pool cover of a property in Milford Road, Plumstead.

Various items were recovered such as televisions, cell phones and one of the firearms stolen from the residence at various properties nearby.

SAPS Forensic experts were called to process the scene. Trauma counselling offered to the complainant and family. No injuries reported.

A case of House Robbery was opened and being investigated by Diep River SAPS. Investigations into possible linkages for other similar cases are being completed.
